"A quiet virtuoso who has developed into one of the most distinctive guitarists around." – Ian Mann, The Jazz Mann

Born in Poland in 1982, guitarist and composer Maciek Pysz has developed a distinctive musical voice that draws on jazz, tango, flamenco, Brazilian and classical music while remaining deeply personal and instantly recognisable. Self-taught and driven by a lifelong passion for melody and improvisation, he has established himself as one of Europe's most individual acoustic guitarists.

Pysz has performed with leading international artists including Richard Galliano, Daniele di Bonaventura, Tim Garland, Ivo Neame, Asaf Sirkis and Yuri Goloubev, and has appeared on the same bill as Hiromi, Vincent Peirani, Émile Parisien, Erik Truffaz, Stanley Clarke, Yaron Herman and the Marcin Wasilewski Trio. His compositions have been praised for their lyricism and originality, with critic Stephen Graham describing them as possessing "genuine improvisational flair enveloping the excellent tunes. The tunes speak to you."

Originally from Rybnik, Poland, Pysz spent more than two decades living and working abroad, primarily in London and Paris, while also spending significant periods in Milan and the South of France. He is now sharing his time between Paris, London and Kraków, Poland, while continuing to perform internationally.

After moving to London in 2003, he quickly established himself on the UK and European jazz scenes. He founded the Maciek Pysz Trio in 2008 and released his debut EP Discoveries the same year. His debut album Insight followed in 2013, recorded at the renowned Artesuono Studio in Italy with acclaimed engineer Stefano Amerio and released to widespread critical acclaim.

His second album, A Journey (2015), marked the beginning of a long-standing artistic collaboration with Italian bandoneon master Daniele di Bonaventura. Featuring di Bonaventura alongside Pysz's trio with Yuri Goloubev and Asaf Sirkis, the album received enthusiastic reviews and led to numerous performances across Europe.

In 2017, Pysz released London Stories with Italian guitarist Gianluca Corona and, later that year, Coming Home, the first album recorded exclusively as a duo with Daniele di Bonaventura. The collaboration has continued to flourish through concerts at festivals and concert halls throughout Europe, establishing the duo as one of the most distinctive cross-cultural partnerships on the contemporary European jazz scene.

In 2019, Pysz released the acclaimed solo guitar album A View, praised by critics for its intimacy, warmth and melodic beauty. Alongside his work as a bandleader, he has continued to develop a wide range of international collaborations and projects spanning jazz, chamber music and improvised music.

A major new chapter in his artistic journey arrived with Pont de Vie (2025), a trio recording featuring Daniele di Bonaventura and long-time collaborator Yuri Goloubev. The album has received enthusiastic reviews and further cemented Pysz's reputation as a composer and guitarist capable of creating music of remarkable depth, subtlety and emotional resonance.

Having performed at major European and international festivals throughout his career, Maciek Pysz remains an artist of rare sensitivity and melodic imagination, captivating audiences with his refined tone, storytelling touch and deeply human approach to music.
